Our 2022 Sustainability Report

S-Word Report 2022_ Cover

Last year, we published our first ever sustainability report, highlighting how we’ve put sustainability at the core of our company. Sustainability is deeply ingrained in our values, our brand, and our story. We are dedicated to making a positive impact on the world through our company. To ensure we keep our promises, we’ve committed to publishing a sustainability report every year for transparency.

This year, we asked ourselves how we can contribute to making a change. We’ve dedicated ourselves to the environment, our community, and a sustainable economy. We’ve written down our journey to sustainability as well as our future steps to improve. We hope that we can inspire you or your company to become more sustainable and transparent by releasing your own report.

Please send us an email with any criticism, suggestions, or feedback. Happy reading!

As a sustainable travel-focused company, we are big fans of our world and its beautiful environmental diversity. We want to protect our planet and leave it better than we found it.

Our work environment

We managed to keep all European company travels to ground transportation with the exception of one return flight segment.

We created a work environment which is beneficial to the planet. We are a remote based company which makes us reliant on technology and 99% digital.

We are also 99% paperless with any paper we do use coming from Sloane Stationery which is a vegan paper company who also contributes to reducing plastic in the ocean.

To communicate remotely we use Slack which has the best carbon impact compared to all other communication apps. We also ensure that all of the carbon emissions from our equipment are offset.

Our contributions to the environment

We use renewable energy to power our company at the Munich and Berlin locations and we continuously carbon offset our emissions.

We work with Atmosfair, who contributes to sustainable development through technology transfer and reducing poverty as well as Green Forest Fund which plants trees around Germany.

Our Goals

We want to become as sustainable as possible, which means we have many future goals we are working towards. Our most ambitious plan is to become a B Corporation by 2026!

Business travel is accountable for around 1.6% of carbon emissions.

We are striving to reduce our travel emissions by using trains, cars, and buses when traveling within the EU. We also want to move to a carbon neutral website host. We plan to be 100% paperless by the end of this year, 2023, while also reducing our waste production. We avoid any greenwashing techniques when working with our clients. We exclusively buy any client gifts, equipment, or other office necessities from sustainable and ethical brands.

We are very proud of how we’ve contributed to society over the years. We are dedicated to benefiting our local community as well as wider society by making positive strides towards inclusion, diversity, and giving back to our community while maintaining a positive company culture.

What we are doing

We believe diversity is a must to work in the travel and tourism industry.

We have a fantastic international team full of different nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds. We are multilingual and our diversity gives us unique perspectives for problem solving and creative thinking. We are also a women-led team, dedicated to empowering women around the world.

We give back to society through our educational NGO Eunoia e.V. founded by our Managing Director Natascha. Through our NGO we have nurtured educational projects with a focus on sustainability and local culture. We believe that part of our social responsibility is giving back to our local community.

Finally, flexibility is one of our core values. We believe that anyone should be able to do the job from anywhere if they have the right qualifications. Therefore, we have no major application restrictions.

Our Goals

We believe in the importance of gender equality and while we are proud of our female driven team, we also hope to invite all genders into our company for more diverse perspectives.

We plan to work with more sustainable businesses and turn the companies we do work with into sustainable leaders. To ensure client satisfaction we will implement regular client feedback as well.

Our favorite goal is to implement volunteering hours for each team member. This means that our team will be able to choose a fully paid day of work to volunteer for a cause of their choice. We want to create more volunteering opportunities, giving our team the chance to make a positive impact.

“Small, locally owned businesses and startups tend to generate higher incomes for people in a community than big, nonlocal firms…” – Dock Treece

We believe it is integral to establish ethical and moral regulations for economic responsibility. We want to seek a solution to expanding our business in the global hospitality sector and make profits while benefiting the community and society. We also believe in working with only sustainable businesses or businesses that want to become sustainable. We intend to make a positive change in society while maintaining a sustainable profit.

What we are doing

Right now, all of the clients we work with are ethical. We only work with businesses which align with our values and those businesses which don’t, we want to inspire and guide them to become even more sustainable.

Our Goals

We want to prioritize sustainability initiatives when working with clients. Moreover, we want to expand our services to offer ethical and economical consulting, converting more companies onto the path of sustainability.

We plan to collaborate with business partners that also focus on sustainability to have a positive impact. We are already striving to meet this goal by working with MA people, a sustainable consultancy agency. Stay tuned for our joint Sustainable Communications Handbook coming in September 2023.

Our Progress

Rupp_PR_Calculations_20222

We are very proud of our progress which is displayed in the calculations done by Chiara.

Did you know that a flight from Munich to Mexico City emits 1.6 tonnes of carbon per passenger?

We calculated our emissions through the carbon donut as well as other sources listed in our bibliography. As stated before, we’ve done our compensation with Atmosfair and the Green Forest Fund. We also donated 2.000 EUR to Eunoia e.V. for educational projects around the globe.

Conclusion

It is crucial that we contribute to the three pillars of sustainability equally – environmental, societal, and economic. We want to maintain our motivation to be sustainable and remember that the future of the world is in our hands.

We want to encourage everyone to publish their sustainability report and take accountability for their own contributions to a sustainable world. We believe that companies can be a force for good and we are dedicated to making that belief true.
