Introducing Our Podcast: The S-Word

Sustainability is one of our core values at Rupp Public Relations. We liked to consider ourselves experts on the matters of creating green and ethical strategies for companies as well as explorers of new sustainable innovations. We don’t have all of the information on sustainability, but we are dedicated to providing a platform where we can learn from experts in the field and inspire listeners to learn. In order to do just that, we’ve launched a podcast called The S-Word where we discuss everything sustainable with the people that know it best – industry professionals!

The What

The S-Word is a podcast dedicated to conversations around sustainability. In each twenty minute interview, you will listen to a variety of experts from different areas that have something to do with sustainability. This way, listeners can explore sustainability across various sectors in the working world as well as draw links to their own life, hopefully making it more green.

The Why

The word sustainability is extremely “overused and abused” as Natascha says in her first episode, so we created The S-Word to “facilitate conversation around sustainability.” We want to start discussions on sustainability with the people that know it best in different industries. We want to demonstrate how sustainability can be incorporated into any industry as well as everyday life. “There are so many layers to sustainability. There are so many things you can do in different areas of life to lead a more sustainable lifestyle, but also to make changes within the corporation you’re working for moving forward.” We hope to inspire you to make the greener choice every day, and that your share your insights with those around you.

The Who

The podcast is hosted by our Founder and Managing Director Natascha Rupp who has dedicated part of her time to creating a more positively impacted world. From her NGO Eunoia e.V. to our communications consultancy, she has incorporated sustainability into all aspects of her life.

Every month, the S-Word invites those working with sustainable means and within the sustainability industry to discuss important issues. These topics range from finance to travel to fashion! So far we’ve been delighted to welcome five different speakers in the last five months.

Month One: We welcomed Beate Triantafilidis who is an expert in the finance industry. “Sustainability should vary depending on the company,” Beate explained during her twenty minute interview, “If you think of sustainability when it first originated, it was about reducing your negative impact… so if you are an oil company you should be focusing on the environmental aspects, but if you are a publisher, your impact will be more on the social side.”

Month Two: Gregory Melitonov spoke to us about sustainability in architecture. Greg feels that “People have lost their personal connection to the environment. We once understood the value of quality and effort, however those skills are in short supply.”

Learn with Greg below.

Month Three: One of our clients, Neil Brinckerhoff hopped on to explore sustainability and travel with us. “Support the destination you are visiting and take that same action home with you to make a change when you get back as well. That’s kind of the general goal in travel and tourism, it’s to learn and be educated and inspired in the place you are visiting and take something home with you to hopefully make an impact in your own community.”

Month Four: Kyle Parsons joined our podcast for the fourth month to talk to us about sustainability in the fashion industry. “When it comes to products in our industry there’s a lot of greenwashing, there’s brands that are really doing it and brands that are just talking the talk to blend in.” One sustainable fashion tip from Kyle? “Wear something until you physically cannot wear something rather than constantly buying new things.” Secondhand works too!

Month Five: Zena Holloway runs an underwater photography business where she experiments with bio designs to make wearable sustainable root structures. She loves to use her work to explore a relationship with the ocean. Zena made dresses out of grassroot to exhibit them as concept pieces to “Get people to think about materiality, get people to think about nature differently, challenge perceptions of how we can use nature, how we can collaborate with nature to grow a different environment.”

Our next few episodes will feature conversations with people working in the food and beverage and the healthcare industry. Don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss out!
